Have your very own mid 19th century bonnet perfectly made to your specifications! Whether you want a silk, ‘horsehair’ (made of a plant material to imitate period horsehair), or straw bonnet, lined or not, feathers, bows, flowers-the possibilities are only limited by historical limitations and your imagination! Please fill out the form completely to create your bonnet.
4″ moiré rayon ribbon is the default. I can also get other man-made fiber ribbon OR I can whip 3 1″ silk ribbon lengths together to make a striped 3″ silk ribbon upon request. I am also happy to use your ribbon Please email if you would like this option!
If you have any specific shade of silk or ribbon you would like, please email me and I will do my best to accommodate. Please note that I may not be able to get an exact shade but I will try!
I do not have my own 1840s to 1865 bonnet patterns as I do not have experience studying many originals. Therefore, a pattern will need to be purchased by the buyer or by me for the buyer. I cannot use copies of patterns I already own because of copyright issues with other pattern makers. I recommend (and have over a decade of experience working with) Timely Tresses patterns. I can also recommend Miller’s Millinery. If you wish to use a different patternmaker, please email me before purchasing a bonnet as I will not use a pattern that does not fit with the authenticity standards I put forth.
Please allow 4-6 weeks for your bonnet to arrive.
Remember to email and ask about our whole outfit discount! If you purchase a whole outfit (all underpinnings, a dress, and at least one piece of outerwear) for a particular time period, you get 10% off the set. Contact [email protected] to find out more!
If you already have a bonnet blank that needs to be finished and trimmed, I do that, too! Please see the Bonnet Blank Trimming listing.
